    I have discovered this thing on some camcorders called a 'J-terminal' and when I look it up it refers to this thing called 'JLIP' which means you can connect it to the computer and edit with the proper software. Can anybody tell me what this software is, where I can get it and for how much?

    You may be refering to iLink or FireWire which is an IEEE 1394 Port. In order to use this you will need an adapter card for your computer (I've got a PC so that's all I know) I use the MotoDV card with Adobe Premiere 5.1. If you intend on using Premiere, check the www.adobe.com website for supported cards, not all of them work.

    I hope this helps >=]

    jlip is actually a way of editing using pre recorded clips. you arrange all the timecodes in the order you like then when you are done the program will search through the tape and record each segment as needed. you never actually record the video into the computer so you don't need a big, fast HD or anything like that. It is a very cheap way to edit on a computer but is very featureless, only accurate to within 5 or 10 frames and usually offers no titles or effects. It's really pretty useless.
